Attica Indiana
Attica also known as The Badlands is located about 100 miles south of Chicago On Rt 41. This place has everything you could imagine it is over 800 acres and growing all the time. There are large sand dunes to tight trails. They have a snack bar on weekends and a small shop for essentials. Last year they added camping down the road from the main entrance. I recommend this place to everyone just watch out for the trucks as they have alot of the wider trails rutted. The town is small but very friendly, a grocery store with gas less than 2 miles away.
Riding is living everything else, is just waiting.

I am in also, everyone should go under under the group rides and go to KDX world map and register, it is cool to see how many people live in the area. But a group ride seems more and more likely.

Some of the trails are but they have smoothed alot of it out. The trucks took care of the worst of the boulders I think. I usually stick to the sand pits and trails by the water, last time I was there they had more wide open trails and I was by myself so I didn't explore much.

I don't recall there being many trails that couldn't be ridden but I'm sure I didn't see the whole place either since I've only been there 3 times.
Some of you may have seen some extreme rock crawling at the Badlands on Speed or ESPN but I think that is in an area reserved for 4x4s.

I have more of a problem with the ruts than the rocks. Alot of the 4x4s and quads dig holes that fill with water that you could drown in or at least come to a sudden and violent stop. There are packs of quads in the bad area usually they warn you or you can see how deep they are so you don't get stuck.

It is only in certain areas and they are pretty easy to spot but the ruts can be a problem. Most of the time you can go around them but if it has been raining it can be slick and maybe fall in the mud. A little exageration on my part about the sudden stops but there are places that are bad, usually that is where the 4x4s are. It is not nearly bad enough to deter you from riding. There are also other areas for sand and hillclimbing. most of the area is easily passable. There are not too many trails that you can go WFO for long, mostly 2nd and 3rd gear trail. I am not anywhere near the rider allot of the guys on this site are. I am truly a master of a casual pace but if I can get through most of it at a snails pace most decent riders will have no problem. Like I said it is definitely not for practicing hare scrambling or GNCCing it through the woods.

I was only there once after some extended rain and hell yeah some areas are VERY muddy and I did experience a rut with no bottom. On the trips where it had been dry, not bad at all. I guess it all depends on individual likes and dislikes.

I hate quads.... I don't like riding on 4 lane highways with ruts. I like riding where if your lucky... you might find a path. But... that's just me and I will probably not ride there. The woods are cool in the summer.

All CHicagoans we can hook up and meet down by Inda in Taylorville next spring. Decent woods down there. Flat, but good. 3 hours. Good camping right at the facility (and no one ever camps). Beer and fire friendly. I live in Bartlett.

Let me know I would definitely be interested. The website says they have over 400 acres so it sounds good to me. We can put it in the group ride section. I just need a warning so I can make sure I am not on call.

Cool!! It's not the greatest place in the world, but good enough to keep a nice pack of riders happy, and again you don't get hassled with at night. No 4WD trucks. We will have to do a north and south event w/ one at Taylorville and one at Buffalo Range.
