Possible 2nd bike

I have an opportunity to buy a 2006 KTM200XC-w. The price is pretty good.

The bike has a new piston. (I was there when it was installed)
Rekluse autoclutch
new fmf pipe
Enduro engineering silencer
good tires
chain is good
sprockets are good
Has steering damper but it needs a rebuild.
Power valve has been cleaned etc.

I know the guy who owns it and how he maintains his stuff.

The real question is do I really gain much/anything with this over my hybrid?

My current bike is mostly stock but runs very strong. I plan on doing a top end and have the head done by RB and some various seals need to be replaced etc. The handling is getting dialed and with a little work on the forks it will be about as good as it gets. I have not really felt like I "needed" more power but it seems like it would be nice.

Anyone here ride a hybrid and a KTM200XC-w back to back?

I've ridden a few 200s. They are fun, light bikes. They didn't seem to lug and chug like our KDXs. I ride a lot of hills and the guys on 200s always hit them running and ring it our pretty good.....whereas I can slip up and still recover at a lower RPM. I think a 200 would be a good bike to have if you didn't have a lot of slower, technical hills.

My 2cents:
Having owned many KTM's and 2 KDX's I can tell you this, as a high altitude woods/extreme single track bike the KDX is the best 200/220cc bike going. I have ridden friends KTM 200's and they are excellent bikes, but at the end of a long, tiring, ass whoop day, I wanna be on the KDX.
In addition to the KDX, I currently own a KTM 450 4T and a 300 2T both excellent machines and can work well anywhere, but for the conditions described above it's my KDX... soon to have auto clutch installed!

If you want a KTM get the 300 2t or a four stroke, you already have the best 200.

I agree completely. But do you remember how bad they cut down the KDX when the KTM 200 came out? If I remember right it was something about, You can buy a stock KTM that will be better than you could make a KDX. I have to disagree with that. The 300's are very nice woods bikes but you cant sit on the seat for more than 45 seconds a day with out needing hemmorroid cream. I have not rode a KTM 200 but can only assume they are the same way. Just my 2 cents.

Chuck Steahly (Steahly Flywheel weights) buys a new KTM 200 every 2 years

Stock, I'd say his 200 has every bit the grunt as a RB modded KDX

I've had him pass me in some steep fuggin terrain and his 200 was just tractoring up the hill with no wheel spin at all

I've got 2 buddies with '08 KTMs that frequently swap bikes with me for as much as an hour at a time. A 200XCW & a 300XCW. Of the two, I much prefer the 300... mostly because of the engine & his reworked suspension. That sucker can lug way down low or flat out rip. Very plush ride.
The 200 I can take or leave, despite it having an autoclutch. Except for ergonomics, I like my KDX just as well or better. (And mine was a lot cheaper.) Sadly, I haven't met anyone with a hybrid yet.

No he's just an +A rider

I asked him why he still rides a 200 and he said "I refuse to grow up"

A lot of guys I know say they use to ride a KDX, but they are all riding KTM's now

Ride one for a day. Then tell me how you like the ride. One of my riding buddys has a 300 that has everything and he even says that you cant beat the ride of a KDX.

One guy I ride with always rides standing. He rides a YZ250

He's always needing a break too. I keep telling him to sit down like I do LOL

He's a lot faster than me but tires out within 5 miles or so
