Uniform Tire Bead Seating

Post by Bouillion »

Just changed the tube in the rear tire on the hybrid. For some reason I can't seem to get the tire bead to seat uniformly around the circumference of the rim? I applied up to 20 psi and till small sections on both side don't appear to seat as far against the rim as the rest. How high on pressure should I go in an attempt to seat it? And can anyone share any tricks to the trade?

Thanks

the tire is not under the wedge............did you tighten the wedge before you put air in it?

Make sure the tire is warm first. Then, I use up to 40 psi and lube the bead with warm, soapy water. Sometimes I have to let the air out lube a section of the bead again and re-inflate to get the bead to seat. BTW, some tires will seat easier than others.

The tire lock is loose and the tire is under the lock. I tried soapy water but it wasn't warm. I give it another try and increase the pressure. Thanks.

The tire being warm makes it easier for it to expand so it makes a huge difference IMO. Just sit the tire in the sun for a bit on both sides and you should be good to go.

Some can be a PITA to get on the bead right. You can also use Windex for bead lube, it will dry without any chance of a slippery film left on the tire bead.
Trials tires are so hard to get to seat, that even with Ru-Glide bead lube, it took several applications of 60+psi to get my D803 to fit.
Knobbies aren't nearly this hard, but can still take a few tries to get to seat.

If it's not going, you are just not lubing it good enough

But really, how important is it on a dirt bike tire?

I'm sure everyone will disagree with me, but I just put it on the rim, with what ever lube you have, about 8-10 psi in the tire and bounce it off the floor starting with the point that is the furthest from seating properly. Give it a few good drops on the high spots get it close and put it on and ride it. It will find it's home.

SPray it down with what ever is handy, usually WD and spoon it on and go. Cold tires can be a BEE-OTCH. The D803 is hard because it is a tubless tire, that is why I started running the X-11. It ans the PEE-relly MT43 are much easier to mount, and I can't tell the diff.
