Cheapy Ebay Wide Foot Pegs.. UPDATE!!..

Post by OLHILLBILLY »

Thinking about getting a set of the $18.99, 2"x3" foot pegs, but they are listed for a "1991-2003" KDX. Did something change with the peg mounts after '03? Or is this just an Ebay seller listing thing?

The listing is wrong as I know for a fact that E and H series pegs are different and he lists it fitting '91-'94 E and '95-'03 H series. I bet they are just for all H series bikes.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. It's a Chinese manufacturer (but aren't they about all now).. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Foot-Peg ... 43a2af4fd3
There's a couple of others from the same place, same price, and all. Figured if I liked the way they felt, if/when they got crashed I'd go ahead and spring for the $80+ IMS versions.

I bought some 1 year ago and they are still working. I think I paid 9 bucks.

If memory serves me correctly I had to do some grinding to make them fit.

I bought a set for my KLX250, and they've been perfect.

Nice, tight fit, and no problems.

I bought some of them for my H model. Didn't fit well, had to bend springs. They are a soft metal so if you drop it in the rocks they will bend.

Love the pivot pegz on my DRZ. Sending pics and dimenions off my E1 to pivot pegz so they can recommend a set that will work with possible modification.

I thought the late model KDX pegs won't fit the 89-94 E1. Their spreadsheet says 1989-1996 kx and kdx 125-250, 1997-2007 kdx 200-220. When I talked to them, they said they had no way of knowing if the PP-31MK3 would fit and asked me to send them pics and dimenions.

Their page gives a more clear breakdown on what they fit.

Buddy of mine has a set on a KLX300 and they set level.
Wonder if it's the particular set the Carvr has, or something different on the KDX frame.. and does he have a '95-up bike? I can't remember off hand.
Not a biggy one way or the other, a moment with the Tig and I can change the stops on them to level them out if they are a bit low.

I will. They probably won't be here until next week sometime. I'll take some pictures of how everything works, and what "mods", if any, I have to do to them.

mine were level upon fitting.with time the hole on the peg has become a little oval and they started to look a little saggy.had a friend blob the part of the peg that sits against the frame with some weld and ground them back to get the correct angle(slightly upswept).

Got the new pegs a day or so ago, finally got off work long enough to put them on.
First a comparison of stock and wide..
Image

The part of the spring that needs to be bent straight. The section of the peg (where the hole is) is a lot thicker than the stocker, and won't let the bent end of the spring go very far in. I took a large hammer (3lb) and used it as an anvil, layed the bent part of the spring wire on it and hammered it straight with a smaller hammer. Just took a few smacks and it straightened right out.
From this..

To this..
Image

Finished product, shifter side (didn't notice the whole mount was bent back a little until now)..
Image

Brake side (straight)..

Not a hard job at all to install, and fit was amazingly good considering they are Chinese junk. Maybe this weekend (providing i'm not working Saturday again), I'll get to try them out.

I'm going to try some different chain lube. Been using Bel Ray Super Clean on it for a couple of years now, and if it gets just a little dry the o-rings get sticky. Never had that problem with any other lube. Fine when there's a fresh, heavy coat on there, but by the end of the day, that's what it looks like. Super Clean alright, doesn't have to draw any dirt, gums everything up pretty good by itself.
