Haven't mounted mine yet. However, at 90%, I would ride it! I've had trouble seating the Maxxis tires I have been using as well. Hell, I never could get the rear to seat completely and I have run it for a year!

I usually spray the whole rim down (inside) with WD-40. It helps a lot.

Thanks SS109 & gregp. I found someone else who had the same problem over at TT with a happy ending. I'll try to seat it again.

The big fuss is that they supposedly grip better & last longer... without costing any more than most brands.
I figure it's kind of like bbq'ed squirrel. Don't knock it till you try it.

Next time the fryer is going, go thru the kitchen and play "Will it fry". Anything that will fit in the fryer should go in the fryer!!!! You can't be disappointed!

I picked up some KY jelly & tried that.
Me to teenage boy sales clerk: "The girlfriend has no excuse for it being too big now."

No amount of bouncing the tire at 60psi helped. Dammit. I'm just gonna leave 60psi in it overnight & see if that last bit of bead will creep out. If not, I'll just take SS109's advice & ride it as is. Sure is bugging me though.

I've put nearly 100 lbs in a trials tire before it seated. Scary!

RE: motoz, one of the places I ride was selling the tractionator tire. Everyone I talked to loved the grip, but lots of reports of failures. When they shed a knob it seems it leaves a hole in the carcass, thus ruining the tire. Something about the way they are molded I guess? Anyway they quit selling them because of that.

If my motoz falls apart I won't buy anymore. Just had to try one though. Hope to get my first ride on it Saturday.

Like I said, the guys that ran them said they got insane traction and loved the tire. I don't honestly know what kinda failure ratio we're talking about. I think there are a couple threads over at TT about them. Hopefully you'll have no problems with it!

Yeah I did quite a bit of research on TT last fall. If I remember, most of the unlucky ones were desert riders? My primary riding areas aren't especially rocky, but we'll see if roots pose any threat. I'm not really expecting to carcass a front tire though, and I have a fresh Millville on the back.

Finally got the bead properly seated thanks to this tip, though I only applied a little WD-40 with a rag to the problem area of the tire. Thanks gregp!

happens every time i fit a tyre, inflate it then gently go around the section with the levers kneading it out bit by bit

WD-40 works very well for mounting tires. I like it because it weeps into the spoke nipples to keep them from siezing, and if you leave the wheel alone for 24 hours or so, it kind of melts the rubber to the rim a little bit.
Windex does not seem (to me) to help much, and dish soap can be very corrosive to the aluminum. I had a CR250 rim start flaking badly inside from dish soap use. I was amazed at the damage, I stopped using it right then and there (20 years ago).
That said, there are many folks who still use it (and Windex). I recommend that you use what works best for you.

I've had about a half dozen rides on the Motoz IT Tractionator front tire. (Damn what a beefy tread for a front!) First ride I thought I'd made a big mistake... felt like the front end was going to wash out in turns more often than not. Second ride was a little better. Third, a little better yet & so on.
The last couple of rides have me convinced that a Motoz requires a bit of a break in, for whatever reason. Grippped like mad on my last ride & I was very pleased. Hardly any sign of wear to this point & I'm curious about the longevity. FYI: I run about 12psi in the front on average.

SS109: Mount yours yet? What's your impression?

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Sorry about that. Yes, I have mounted them and here is my review of them.

I currently have about 20 rides on them. I am more than a little disappointed with them. The front washes out with no warning and knifes in dry sand like crazy. It just doesn't want to hook unless I get the pressure down to 5-6 lbs and then I get pinch flats and it also punctures easier than the Maxxis SI I normally run. It started losing the side knobs at around 15 rides. The rear, while the most predictable tire I have ever ridden on when new, wears very fast, chunks, and loses all traction after about five rides. It always feels like I'm riding on a flat yet it has 9-10 lbs. It also pinch flats and gets punctures easier than the Maxxis IT I run in the rear.

In conclusion, I will not be buying another set of the Motoz Enduro IT's. Maybe one of their other versions would work better but I'm not willing to take that chance. My next set will either be some Geomax 71's or back to my trusted Maxxis. BTW, here are couple of pics of them at 10 rides. First is the front and then the rear. These pics don't show the missing knobs. If anyone would like me to I can post up some pics of that tomorrow.

Wow that sucks. Maybe my east coast environment will be kinder to Motoz tires than your desert conditions? I was thinking about getting a Terrapactor rear but now I don't know if I should chance it. I'll just keep an eye on the front & continue running Kenda Millvilles out back for now. I'll add to this thread after my Motoz sees more abuse. Thanks for the update.
