How do one know spring rate?

Post by t42 »

Hi all-

End of last summer I bought a well used 1990 kdx 200 for $625.....bike's in mostly pretty good condition, but forks were toast and the kick starter slips once in a while.

(I tried to insert some pics of the bike here, but like the newbie that I am, couldn't figure out how to insert images, even tried IMG button with no luck)

I just bought a set of 1997 KDX 200 forks on eBay for small money. I'm assuming '97 forks bolt onto a '90? Bike is in Idaho and I'm back east right now. So I can't compare 1997 forks (says K328-AR & AL on the 1997 forks) with the ones currently on my bike. But my real question is how does one determine what the spring rate is of the springs in the forks? Is there a model# or rate# stamoed on the spring?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Not too sure maybe a color code of some kind... Others here will know better.
I think stock that fork should have a .35 spring here's a cool link
http://www.frpoffroad.com/aboutus.htm#suspension it may answer some of your question if someone else doesn't.
