cylinder cleaning

Post by jbowens2401 »

How should I clean the nikisil plating in the cylinder. I've seen you guys say a scoth brite pad works well, but what type of cleaner should I used and what type of cleanup do I need to do.

Thanks,

John

I just use dish washing detergent and hot water to clean all my cylinders.

I use B-12 Chemtool on a shop rag for the bore and hot soapy water for the rest.

When it's all dried out, a nice coat of WD-40 or 2-stroke oil for the bore.

I use WD-40 and scotchbrite then wipe it down really good. If you use soap and water to clean it make sure you dry it quickly and put a film of oil (such as WD-40) inside the cylinder right away to prevent any oxidation of the surface.

Scotch brite pad and hot soapy water, then rinse in hot water, and dry it off with paper towels and compressed air.

My wife would totally freak out if I put parts in the dishwasher. It's hard enough to convince her that it is ok to put bearings in the freezer and cases in the oven.
