odometer not working

Post by ditton »

Hi all.
Just needed some input with regards to the odometer. Recently replaced the front tire put back together no problem and odometer worked. Took bike out this weekend put on about 10m and then noticed odometer was no longer working. Did go through some (shallow) water but no thick mud. Unit up top is still working (pull/push lever, change numbers, etc) so I'm thinking the bottom piece or cable.
Just wondering if there is a common problem I can look for before dis-assemble wheel, etc or is it shot?
Searched, but could not find anyone that has noted a problem/fix.
Any input is greatly appreciated

The plastic gear in the housing strips out easily. Take it apart and see if that's the case.

Unscrew cable from meter and turn tire, cable should turn

If it does not, take cable off and check to see if end has broke off. Mine usually breaks about 2" from the end

Or if you are lucky you bent the tabs on the meter drive when you installed wheel. Just need to take it apart and straighten

Thanks guys.
Will check them both out.
Mr. Wibbens, you noted " take cable off and check to see if end has broke off. Mine usually breaks about 2" from the end". Did yours break at the meter end or the at the wheel end?

thanks again

at the wheel. I think it gets moisture and corroded

The speedo cable is a maintenance item and should be lubed occasionally

Yes. it's true. Also, the KDX requires g-a-s-o-l-i-n-e in the fuel tank to go.

Not to mention a-i-r in the tires.

Complicated stuff for sure... well worth it in the long run
