I'd just ride it without the motor. It'll be a lot light that way

Rebuilt step 2

Crankcases ready to be split.

Left one: '89
Broken case and weird transmission?, good crank

Right one: '92 spare motor
Blowed hotrod bearing, good transmission and good cases (I hope)

Your video made me sad, I feel your pain.

I'm thinkin' Canada is the Holy Grail of Dirt Biking.

No Sierra Club, no greenies, no freaky hikers, just miles and miles of playground!

There's something unique about riding a KDX. The feeling can't be understood by someone who didn't rode a KDX.

Not yet Wib. I went as far as I can with my tools. Don't want to pry out cases with my crowbar so I will wait until my friend be ready. He just got a new garage and he have access to all the special tools needed to do it correctly. He's also a good riding bud and one of my first rides with the '89 was with him. He was riding a IT200 YAM at this time. We are both attached to the bike.

In the meantime, I ran across the top end. Last time was early 2006. Powervalves was pretty clean and in perfect working order. Most of the time I'm using Amsoil Interceptor 40/1 and the bike drank some bottles of Motul 510/710 too. The left valve is showing some wear. I have a new one to throw in the jug, a new Wiseco piston kit and all the gasket needed in hands.

We opened my two crankcases this afternoon. Spare motor cases and transmission are really in good health. We will install my fresh crank assembly into it when I will receive crank seals, bearings and such parts..

Splitting the spare '92 crankcase (everything looks OK minus the crank)

Surface rust on the '89 due to washing the bike with a hole in the case :?

'89 destroyed transmisson...Main shaft bearing is in working order.

Just received some parts for the KDX . Most of the time I can't wait to get parts, but now, I can say I've adopted an easy going kind of life. I have great service from my local dealer. I usually get the parts within 3 working days when they not have them in hands and we have a hell of a discussion about kdx's.

80$ for a bearing and 3-4 oil seals what a deal :?

Cleaned up everything, pressed in the crank and a couples of new bearings and seals yesterday.

I think I will use my fresh plated spare jug and matched wiseco piston from http://www.langcourt.com/

Program for today : Install the transmission and closing the lower end.

Wow. That cylinder looks *perfect*! I have seen re-plated cylinders from US Chrome that do not look anywhere near that good! The cylinders I have seen from them have a lot of porosity, and they come with a paper that explains that the porosity is a "good thing" as it holds oil. I would much rather have the surface look like yours!
When I get to that point with my cylinder, I am turning to Langcourt's.

Purdy work  Let's see how many decades it will last. My '89 was still on the original factory plating.
