Just bought a clean '99 220. Im sure Ill have a ton of questions in the future and have already pulled the top-end to replace piston with wiseco since previous owner did not know history.

Come to find out it still had stock piston with a crack just starting to appear on intake side of skirt.

my question for now is this:

In '99, what tires would have come on this bike???? Reason I ask is that the seller (2nd owner) said they were the originals.

thanks!

Sounds like you got a real bit of luck catching that piston when you did.
The OEM tires on my '04 was a Dunlop 739 front and a 752 rear. If they are the OEMs on your 99, they must be the consistency of a bakelite ash tray by now.

yeah..no kidding.

the bike runs absolutely perfect, great comp/quiet/etc, but I just couldn't sleep at night not knowing if there was a potential timebomb... and there was.

as to the tires. you know? they aren't that bad. There is VERY little wear on them, and although a bit "hard"...usable for this season.

the front is a Dunlop K490 and rear is a D755. I cant find any info on what came from the factory for the '99's.... Just curious more than anything I guess.

thanks for the reply.

Looking at my manual ('95-'06), it does list the K490 as one of the fronts used on them. But doesn't show the D755 as being used, K695, D752, or D903.
No matter though, I'd bet it hasn't been around the block very many times. Congrats on finding a sweet bike. :bravo:

congrats. I have a 99 KDX220R as well, and the PO (a friend) had just replaced the piston for me when I bought it. He also put a nice Michelin S12 rear tire, which I am trying to burn off so I can run the 'en vogue' trials tire everybody raves about on here :prayer:

The 220 supplement manual shows the K490 front and the K695 rear as the oem tires.

Which I wouldn't run in any conditions....IMHO....At least never to purchase as replacements.
