premix in airbox

Post by Tedh98 »

I pulled the airbox off my bike to do some maintenance and notice premix in the airbox. It was actually mostly oil as the gas had evaporated. And it wasn't oil from filter b/c I use no toill, which is red, and the stuff in the airbox was blue (same color as premix).

Is it normal to have some oil in the airbox or is that a symptom of worn reeds?

Thanks for the input.

Pretty normal, but you might check your reeds out just to be sure they are working properly.

I don't think he is wiping out oz's or anything. All airboxes I have ever seen has some premix in them....

it might also be the filter oil that you spray on.....it can slowly settle down the filter and collect in the bottom

Every two stroke I have ever owned has gathered a slight amount of premix oil in the boot between the air box and the carb, this can be seen only when the filter is removed.

I didn't think to measure, but I was able to pour some out. I don't think it was in the ounces category.

I'm sure it is fine. If the reeds were bad the bike should be hard starting and running rich. Classic symptoms of bad reeds.

After every ride I change the air filter and wipe the oil out of the air box boot with a white paper towel.
With a white paper towel you can easily see if any dirt has gotten by the filter. And what looks like a lot of oil is really not much at all, as can be seen by the small amount on the paper towel.
