Hello,
I just changed the gear shift shaft seal on my 1991 KDX250SR. During the seal change procedure, the gear shift shaft slipped back into the crankcase a few times (it felt like slipped out of place). I was able to wigle it around and make it come back at to where it was. The question I have is if it slides back into the case like I described, and I wigle it around untill it comes back out to where it is suppose to be (sounds like it changed gears a few times too while I was wigling), will it still function properly or is possible that it fucked something up. I have the top-end torned apart now so I can’t test it out.
Second question – is there a way to hold the gear shift shaft in place while I push the gear shifter back on the shaft. My gear shift shaft easily slides back in to the crankcase - it doesn't stay in place while I try push the gear shifter back on.
