I just noticed a loud clunk sound shifting into second gear.
Did I break something? Running Mobil 1 10W40.
It only seems to be that gear.
Thx

You'll know if it starts to whine like a gear drive

I dont' think it's doing that/ but I just noticed it. (hard to tell over the KIPS rattle)
I think I'll try 80wt gear oil.

If its actually clunking, I'd take a guess that something is amiss in your tranny
The bearing on the end of the input shaft goes bad and it will definitely start to clunk in second gear, while the rest of the gears may seem fine, as mine did
Hopefully it's not ...
These were needle bearings
These are needle bearings, fused on to the end of the input shaft

I was at least 15 miles away from my truck and had no other choice than to ride it out

looks like it scewd the hole up? did you put a bearing in it, or did you have to get a new cover?

Yikes! How can I tell if that is what the problem actually is?
Is this a "split the cases" fix?

I change the oil to Spectro gear lube and it's still doing the same thing, a loud clunk sound particularly when shifting from neutral (clutch in) into second.
Is this normal? If not is there an easy fix or just 'run it 'til it breaks" ?
Thx

It definitely "clunks" shifting into second but mostly shifting from neutral standing still with the clutch pulled in. Moving, shifting from 1st to 2nd and up seems fine.
Otherwise it runs great!

I would not worry about it then
Most bikes clunk going from neutral

Thanks! I'll run it til it breaks and then it's off to you to rebuild:)
