Is this standard auto fluid for the tranny or something special?

Ive read several posts discussing oil vs ATF, but unsure if it is just regular auto fluid or a moto ATF?

They are speaking of Automatic Transmission fluid. And yes, it will work, but change it often if you decide to run it.

I change mine every 10 hours and it looks great everytime. For $4/quart you can't go wrong.

Yea, Ive heard good things about it. I just bought this bike and it had a spun tranny bearing when I bought it. Got to ride it 3 times then crankshaft seal went out, so replaced it. Got another ride then it started leaking again.

Drained oil and found lots of shavings so I took off clutch side casing and it was full of shavings. Clutch bearing has froze up so I knew I was in trouble. Then I started tearing the engine apart got it off bike and split case to find tranny bearing spun out of race and other side covered in shavings.

Not sure what came first...clutch problem or bearing problem. Im now in the middle of a bolt up restoration.

SLick Nick.....I found your posting a couple of years ago on Thumper talk. SWEET rebuild, IM trying to copy your work. BTW, how is the engine paint holding up, Im thinking about doing same.

BTW, how is the engine paint holding up, Im thinking about doing same. You have alot of talent and your pictures really inspired me to try to do more in depth/detail; work on my project.

Engine paint is holding up fine, today I did the "50 hour teardown" to regrease all the bearings, etc. Paint is wearing off only on the clutch cover side where my boot hits it, but the stock cover did that too. Everywhere else is holding up great including the swingarm!

i use atf in my ktms with no problem. my 300 dont shift right with oil. the atf seems to make all my bikes shift easier. i chang mine about as often as oil tho, seems just as clean coming out as going in.

Great to hear about the durability of the paint, that makes it a nol brainer. Im gonna start painting with it.

Thanks to all for the AFT input, Im also going to use it.

What brand of ATF Type F are we talking about. I was looking at this and went into several parts houses and only found "house" brands of Type F, never found Castrol, or Valvoline type brands, so my question is.

Can I just buy the in house or Coastal type brands?
