I've located two decent bikes within reasonable driving distance. A 2000 200 and a 2003 220. Any reason(s) to choose one over the other (not counting price or condition of bikes - just 200 vs 220)?

I plan on switching to a KX front suspension no matter which bike I buy. I'll also have RB Designs set the squish clearance just like I did for both of our CR250s. I know about the carb on the 220 - no big deal, I can have that done too.

Both great bikes. I think the best factor is get the bike in the best condition. If they are the same condition, then pick the bike that matches your riding style and conditions. The 200 revs much better but the 220 lugs much better. I ride in the slippery NW so like to lug for traction. I basically ride my bike like a "3 stroke" to keep constant traction. I love my 220. But either bike is awesome!

I don't know anything about the 200, but I have two KDX 220'S. a 98 and an 03. I love them for the woods or just tearing around in a quarry.

I have a 220. Great bike. My only complant is that every one that rides it thinks it is so slow... But it puts a smile on my face when I smoke them in the woods with it. U have to get used to the 220. Power delivery is different. 200 is just like most 2strokes, revy. So easy to get used to when coming off other bikes. I race my ktm250 now bc it's alot faster than my 220, but I'm gonna get a 200 soon and do another hybrid with it so i can race in the lites class. Really u can go wrong either way.

I'm sure the "200isbest220blows" crowd will be here in a moment. Them little motor guys are pretty vocal.

If you have a 220 and get the head and carb done and put a rev pipe on it it will out run the chassis. You'll switch your attention to forks and shock pretty quick.

I've ridden both and run a 220 now. The supposed superiority of the 200's overrev is pretty useless in the woods. I guess it is pretty handy in the last few seconds of a failed hill climb.

I just like the snappier engine on the 200. With enough mods, sure a 220 will almost keep up.

Also, the 220 *may* require a new piston, asap, and it will also need the "Desert" pipe, as opposed to the "Woods" pipe to perform well.
The 200 piston is fine, and will respond well to either pipe.

Hey, I like 'em both! It's just that I have owned two 200's, because, "I don't always ride in the woods, but when I do,... I prefer to go fast!"

Looks like it's going to be the 200. Someone else was quicker on the draw than I was and bought the 220. I'll be going to look at the 200 tomorrow morning. If it looks as good in person and it does in pictures, it'll be coming home with me. Just so happens there's a PW 50 for sale in the same town as the KDX so it will be coming home with me too. My 4 year old granddaughter will love it.

That will be two CR 250s, one TT-R 230, one KDX 200, one PW 50, and a 400 Big Bear 4 wheeler....(and that's not counting my boats!). How did I end up with so many TOYS!??? No wonder I have to work ALL THE TIME.

I have two boats myself and they cost me a lot more to maintain than 6 motorcycyles. Cool avatar BTW!

I think my experience is opposite of yours. I think my boats are cheaper to MAINTAIN than the motorcycles. Initial purchase / building is a different story though.

That avatar is one of my race boats (I currently have two.) I also have a "fishing boat" and a "duck hunting" boat. Both aluminum. Fishing boat is 17' with a 50 horse. Duck hunting boat is 15' with a 25 horse. At one time or another I have used both for both purposes.

Wow! What a thrill that ride must be. I didn't ever think I could get more scared than hitting like 95 in my old boss' little STV, untill he turned it goin' around 80-YIKES!!!
