pilot jet questions.

I understand that if the air screw is between 1 to 2 turns it is fine with the pj. however, if a 42 pj AS setting is 1.7 turns out and a 40 pj AS setting is at 1.4 turns out, what would I have to go for? the bigger or smaller pj size? thanks for any advise.
