Repacking of silencers ??
Was wondering if you guys could give me info on the basics of "silencers " and what is "repacking " ?? Technically, how is the silencer working ? What is repacking AND how do you know when it needs to be done ? Thanks, in advance, for any info .
2002 KDX200, FMF Gnarly Woods Pipe, FMF Power Core II Silencer, Moose bark busters, 3/4" bar riser, odometer removed, IMS Super Stock pegs.

The stock silencer on the H series don't use packing. They just have metal baffles. They're pretty much maintenance free and most people that try an aftermarket one say it doesn't really add any power, just more noise. The stock ones are a bit heavy, but I doubt you could tell the difference while riding.
Packing is fiberglass fluffy stuff that gets wrapped around a mesh core and stuffed inside the outer can of the silencer. Then the exhaust goes through the packing and loses some of it's noise energy. The packing gets carbon and oil in it, plus small pieces get blown out the pipe, so you have to replace it every so often.
