It prevents the motor from stalling if for instance you stab the rear brake and forget to pull in the clutch. basically same function as a rekluse auto clutch. Also allows clutchless shifting etc.

Basically, it's a full auto clutch that includes the ability to over ride it with the clutch lever. Kinda like if you were riding an XR50 but could also pull a clutch to rev the engine more for a holeshot start or any time you wanted to slip it more for more power or technical riding.
Some auto clutches do away with the clutch lever all together, which also allows you to have a rear brake lever in it's place.
I like leaving the clutch lever functional, only because I'm an old dog and don't re-learn things very well.
I can, however, see that there are advantages to both systems.

Oh, and I forgot...... like Frankenshwinn said, it prevents stalling, which is the big selling point for me.

I emailed Alan at revloc about the initial KDX fitment issues and this is the
response I got.

Its true there were some issues with the first Dyna Ring for the KDX - basically the whole pack was to thick. Its all fixed now the solution is simple, the kit now comes with a full set of plates and the friction plates are slightly thinner. I even bought a KDX to test everything on :) . If you are in CO you are welcome to come by to try.

Its all working right now. I am running low on stock but they will be fully stocked within a week (they are on my CNC now).

PLease let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry I've been off so long, but this is a busy time of year for me. The one change with the new clutch pack is that you don't have full over ride with the clutch lever. I'm not sure how thats gonna work for me. I'll get on here and let you know what I think after I have time to ride it more.

I talked to Alan today (and ordered a Dyna Ring). He said all the bugs are worked out. I'll post my results once I get mine installed.

Hey all, first post here on the forum. I found it when I was looking for some KDX specific information on the Revloc Dyna Ring. This tread answered many but left me with a few new ones.

I asked about the comment dmcc made that the final product didn't have full override. I also asked about the initial question that brought me here which was that this whole thing is a friction plate which we know is designed to wear. I needed to know if it could be rebuilt or would there be a reduced cost for replacements as $400 would be steep if/when the friction compound needed replacement.

Here is Alan's reply:

It is true that the first Dyna Ring for the KDX there was a problem where you could not get full over ride.

However it is now fixed and works absolutely perfectly, 100% overide bump start and pulls hard. It comes with a full clutch pack.

You are correct there is a friction material on the Dyna Ring, it is repalceable if it ever needs it. However I have never had to do it, in fact I have never seen and measurable wear upon it. The way that it is designed is to be the last plate to slip - it has a much larger surface area than the rest of the plates. It is also a very hard kevlar. The replacement fiber will cost approx $25.00.

The Dyna Ring kit for the KDX is $379.00.

Also if you dont mind, if you do see anyone on a forum that has an old version please feel free to tell them to contact me so I can get them the fix.

Much thanks.

Best regards
Alan

I want one of these. Anyone with some decent seat time using one of these? I had a Rekluse on an old bike I had and loved it.

Received the Dyna Ring this afternoon. Installation was a breeze. Limited testing so far but it appears to me that it does everything the Rekluse Z Start Pro that's in my son's CR250 does. I like it.

My son just got through riding the KDX. He felt the same as me - no different than the Rekluse that's in his CR250 (other than $220 less than the Rekluse). We both like the lever pull of the Dyna Ring better than the Rekluse. If your clutch parts are in good shape buy the Dyna Ring. No need spending the extra money for the other parts the other auto clutches come with.

The pull of the Dyna Ring feels just like a stock clutch all the time. The Rekluse has almost no resistance at idle (kinda feels like the clutch cable is broken). The Dyna Ring can be adjusted so that you can push start the bike. Can't do that with the Rekluse. The Dyna Ring cost me $391 shipped. The Rekluse Z Start Pro cost me $599 shipped (and I have two of them - one for each CR250). IF I had only known..... I could have saved $416.

The Dyna Ring is easier to install too.
