I just weighed my FMF silencer at 3.8 pounds. Weighed it twice and got the same number. Stock silencer was 8 pounds.
Modern mathematics would suggest that we may, indeed, be in the presence of greatness if one of our members could in fact crap 4.2 pounds in a day.
FUZZY FOR PRESIDENT.

That's about right. I only know because...I just started a company weight loss challenge, and on monday we weighed in. I was full of everything, including lunch, at weigh in. So of course I had to weigh again after releiving myself.

Misleading Data to Blame for fuzzy Strain / Injury & ...
...Facility Damages.
OK, so maybe fuzzy isn't as full of $#!t as we think.
The net weight of the OEM muffler is not the original 8 lbs as thought, but about 5.45 lbs. per the certified scale at the UPS Store.
All I can say is the discrepancy musta been the power d between weighing myself with and without the muffler on the bathroom scale.
What else can we weigh and challenge fuzzy with ???

PF Changs, mostly...LMFAO!
OK, so now that the correct weight difference has been established between silencers, my original statement is most definitely true and can be used as common reference when speaking silencer talk....You can literally crap the difference in weight.

Unfortunately, it's not nearly as impressive as I first thought. I'm afraid I'll have to withdraw your nomination for president as a result.
Oh, what the heck - FUZZY FOR PRESIDENT.
I will say that when I put the stock silencer back on I noticed a difference. Not in the power, but the engine seems to rev slower with the stocker on. My imagination? Think I'll swap them again and see if I notice it in the other direction.

There another thing to keep in mind.
When I was on my real KDX (not the hybrid) I did the RB mods - head and carb work.
I was using a shiny pipe (Gnarly, I guess) and the stock silencer.
After installing the RB mods the bike would barely run. It had no GO at all
I had also just replaced piston and rings but had broke it in partly before swapping heads and carbs.
Anyway, I called Ron on a sunday afternoon for help. He was on the phone with me and I'm revving the bike and he is listening and asking questions.
Seat off - no rag in the airbox
Gas on, choke off, plug cap on tight, etc.
He asked about the volume of exhaust gas coming out of the silencer.
I told him I'd call him back and after I put a spare silencer on that I had.
My OEM silencer was plugged up pretty good. When I put the spare silencer on the bike REALLY woke up.
The moral of the story is that the OEM silencer can plug up. It happens slowly and might fool one into thinking that an aftermarket silencer provides more power. The plugging fooled me into thinking that my abilities were improving so much I needed more power!

Stop feeding it PF Chang's.
.
If there is no packing inside, and it's not openable, clean-out should be just a session on the bar-b-que and a repaint.

Yeah, it can happen to the pipe, too. In the karts I race we run plain steel pipes custom to our application. With all the castor we run the cones can start to become negatively affected rather quickly. We just put the pipes in a gallon of old methanol inside a metal container, and light on fire. When done and cooled, just rap with a screwdriver, and let all the carbon fall out...Then scotch-brite and oil, or paint in this case. The mentioned bbq method would work well, but I don't know if I want a pint of spoo burning off in my grill.
