Front Sprocket Retaining Nut

Post by Bouillion »

I know its not a KDX question however, does anyone have any tips to removing the front sprocket retaining nut on a 2007 kLX300r?

I tapped the retaining washer flat all around the nut, and I am still unable to break the torque on the nut with a 12" breaker bar. Plus I'm having trouble holding backup using the chain as the holder? I haven't applied heat (no torch) yet but just don't understand why its so hard to get off. Its not left handed treads by any chance?

Thanks

IIRC the KLX300 had a circlip just like the KDX. The memory is lost in the murk of years and old bikes I guess..

Those nuts come off with an impact driver and 90 psi.

Most of the time they use red loctite

You will probably need to heat it with a torch first

Take a pipe and stick it through the wheel to hold it while you are torquing it on and off

and remember to use the loctite on assembly

It'll be a right hand thread. Bang that sucker off of there with an impact.
People go through this with flywheel nuts, put rope in the cylinder, buy piston lockup things that go in the sparkplug hole, flywheel holders, etc.. Hit it with a good impact, and off it comes, no problem.

Impact is the way to go if you have access to one. You can also run something through the chain top to bottom to lock the chain so you can get some torque on it.
