Yeah, based of KX motor, but way smoother. More bulbous ergos and heavier than the newer 200's.

Well the KDX200 engine is based off a KX engine as well.

The 200 is based off an older kx125 design
The 250 is based off the older kx250 design

I don't know the actual HP ratings, but the 250's seem to have quite a bit more power. Especially when the engine is un-corked ( Pipe, jetting, KX head gasket, etc...).

I'm gonna find me an old KDX250 one of these days, if just for the engine.

I've been thinking about building a hybrid with my KDX 250 motor. I love the bike but it is quite heavy, my buddies 200 feels so much lighter. I can't find where anyone has transplanted the 250 motor into any other frame but I'd be interested to hear how difficult it is.

I think you could fit it into a kx250 frame pretty easy. Getting it into a 125 frame would probably prove problematic though..

I suppose a KX250 chassis makes more sense for a KDX250 hybrid since the KDX 250 weighs so much more than the 200 to begin with. From what I've read most people rule out the KX250 for a 200/220 hybrid because the weight savings aren't significant enough...in my case I think they would be though.
