The metal case saver is manditory.... the plastic is not needed at all. If the case saver does it's job when called upon... you won't find any plastic anyway...

Just castrol and Valvoline 10-40 wts with no friction modifiers. It does tend to shift better with fresh oil in the tranny. By the third ride it's back to pretty sketchy shifting. I was thinking about trying ATF since so many like it, but I would think there is something wrong in my gearbox to make it behave this way.

Red Line ATF in every 2 stroke I've owned since 1996. Excellent results.

I noticed this trait after the first ride on mine. The plastic bit is resting peacefully in my leftover parts pile. It's being kept company by the stock exhaust, stock handguards, stock fork springs, and a few other odds and ends stock items.

I run a modified KLX plastic piece. Looks better, and keeps the mud, etc out alot better than the stock one.

What is the purpose of the plastic piece anyway? I think I'll remove mine too.

BTW...that's one clean bike Slick Nick...how do all these guys keep their "dirt" bikes so clean??? Must live in the desert or something...can't be any mud for miles!

I wash my bike after every ride too but it'll never look like that again unless I completely disassemble it and put each part in a parts washer!
