Making a 220 into a 200

A guy I ride with says that the 200 is a better single track motor that the 220.
Is this true?
Why?
Is it a bolt-on proposition? I have a 200 top end ready to go.

It's hard to imagine my 220 being any better, but...

Swap the jug, head and piston.... you have a 200.

Depends on the single track....

Tight, nasty, rocky, wet, root laden, you can barely walk up, 40 switch backs in a half mile, single track. With huge elevation changes and many deep creek crossings.

In a word... Idaho.

If the trail is that tight and rough if would probably not even matter. Some prefer the over rev of the 200, some the little extra bottom of the 220. I would think that trail and riding style would determine which was optimal. I prefer the 200, always have, always will. One disclaimer though, I am not retarded. LOL

Ditto what Inda said about the swap, except the carb is needed as well to really have it run like a 200.

The 220 has more low end grunt than the 200, but is considerably slower on the top end. From the terrain you describe, I'm not sure the 200 would be "better" at it, just different..

I think I'll stick with the 220 top end.

Thanks for the info guys

As said many times on here, put a desert pipe and dual-stage reeds on it, and send your head and carb to Ron Black or at least find a carb off of a 200. Then you will have some top end to go with the grunt.

Just be sure you don't use the stock 220 piston. They are prone to the skirt breaking off.

In my opinion, the 200 will be more fun for the advanced rider and the 220 for the guy who is the occasional rider. The 220 is a bit more forgiving when lugging and the 200 is a bit more "perky".

You know, there's a difference between a good bottom end and a big fat ass ;).
