New graphics on old shrouds?

Post by johnyblaze »

I have some FX graphics to update the '98 220. Unfortunately, when I pulled the old graphics off - turnes out the shrouds are a bit buggered. They have the scratches one would expect from a '98 but also have been "bent" from getoffs.

Not bad, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort on the new graphics or should I bite the bullet and just get some new shrouds?

Thanks in advance

you can bend them back with a heat gun, it'll also remove the whitening/weathering where it was bent, just be carefull not too go too hot too close or it'll melt
You can sand the scratches too.

Thanks Skeckaet. I'm not known for my delicacy with the heat gun ... but I'll give it the college try.

Steel Wool will also clean them up.
Start with a #2 to smooth the scratches and clean them up, then go over with a #00 or #000 to polish them up.
You'll be amazed how good it works.
I did this to a completely oxidized (almost white) tank off of an 87 kdx and it polished up like new.

Ah, I see there are other cheap bastiges on this site who aren't above reworking old shrouds. I like this site better all the time.

Thanks guys

what's the point of puting NEW shrouds on when you know that as soon as you take the bike out you'll crash and destroy them...same for graphics, never seen the point in them

Oh my god first rule of motor cycles is NEVER to say I never crash , i suggest that you put the bike up for sale now. I hate to say this but I have had so many good friends that have said that, and then have had bad crashes after.

Been riding off road for 10 years still finding out how best to do it.Riden a DR125 then a DT125R then a DR125 then DRZ400 then XR250 then a TE610 now I hope that I have found the best a KDX220 just to add the KDX has gone now riding a WR426 which I love and is so much better than the KDX.

Cripes! I crash all ther trime. Did an endo last week but it wasn't my fault. Front end dropped into a sinkhole - 6" over the front tire.

My new MX rear fender is already all scratched up.

I'm too cheap to buy new shrouds. Unfortunastely, I bought the graphics cheap, and now I'm too cheap to not use them!

Also, I've been amazed at some of the prettier bikes on here.

Did the same thing last night. Landed head first and rolled onto my feet. I was lucky, two minor scatches where my wrists hit the hand guards and thats it. Would have loved to get int on tape.
