The sad news is , you should replace both sprockets when you replace the chain. Worn out sprockets will ruin a new chain.

Sometimes you can get away with not changing the sprockets, at least the rear
Just changed mine out today
Front sprocket had some wear and the teeth were hooked. Rear sprocket had barely any noticeable wear. I put the new one up against it and they looked the same. Teeth were not worn and the valleys matched up
So now I have a spare if I ever need it

Also be aware that some are saying the cheaper countershaft sprockets are loose and cause faster wear on the CS shaft. There was a thread or two on this causing the shaft to have to be replaced. I recently got a Renthal to replace a cheapie I bought. I'll have to take a look and see if my CS shaft is worn.

I don't think it's just the chepies that are loose. Can't remember the brand but I had 24$ CSS that was loose on the shaft. As I remember the JT's I had were not loose.
