Need a little help!

When I took my sidecover off this just dropped on the ground as I was pulling the cover from the engine. It is a thin, flat ring. I have looked at the parts diagrams and manual and still can't figure out where it goes. Can anyone help me out here?

Kickstarter mech, least thats where I believe mine went
Mine was laying in the bottom of the case
