1992 KDX 250 vs 2000 KDX 200
There is a 92 KDX 250 for sale here locally for $800. Supposed to be in good shape. I have a 2000 KDX 200 that i really haven't had much time on. The little bit of riding I did do on the 200 I was a little disappointed in the power. Am planning on doing the RB mods.

Opinions on a 1992 KDX 250 vs a 2000 KDX 200.
I'm interested in the 250.
Is that a good price?
Is the extra 50cc from the 250 a significant (noticeable) jump in power over the 200?
Is the 250 suspension any better? Worse?
Do you think my wife would be totally mad at me for buying yet another bike!! lol I think I know the answer to that one...

thanks juliend. Weight and bulk is a big factor for me. One of the things i really like about the 200 is that is is fairly light and it handles well. After the suspension mods i was planing on spending time tuning the engine. I'm pretty sure it's not running as well as it could. i guess I'll stick with my original plan.

Don't get me wrong, I like the kdx250 and would like to have one myself. The engine is based of the kx250, and with a little tweaking it will absolutely rip. The bike itself is kind of like a school bus though. Takes a whole lot of work to get it to handle worth a darn.
Your 200 should run like a scalded dog, something must not be right. Any mods to date, or is it all stock?

That's what I was expecting but it wasn't like that. At that point i knew I had some work to do.Indawoods wrote:That's for sure..... Mine will take off and leave me if I don't hang on....
Can't say on either point but will soon. I just ordered a top end gasket set and plan on taking a look. I picked up the bike over the winter and figure I should really open it up and take a peak. Plus I'll be pulling the carb and head this weekend to send to RB Designs. I've never done anything like this so I've been studying the manual.scheckaet wrote:wrong jetting / kips valve not working?

Thanks Inda. You'all have totally help already. I would never have entertained doing any mods at all if I hadn't found your site. Reading through old post and listening to the folks here I know exactly what spark plugs i want to use, oils i plan to use, suspension changes, engine tuning...etc. You have a great site thanks.

I'll take you up on that. I've never jetted a bike before and having someone there with experience would be great. I'll buy lunch!
I'm sure the only problem that 450 had with the mud was when it came time to washing it! I'm guessing that's the bike you're taking to Hatfield & McCoy in WV. I've been watching that tread. Won't make it this trip but will definitely try for the next one.

I rode her hard and put her away wet
Will clean it up and ride again tomorrow.
I will be taking both bike to WV.
Although I like the rush from the 450 the KDX
is definitely a smoother and easier ride.
I see a possible Z start pro for the 450 in
the very near future.
You were getting a pipe and Rb carb and head mod ?
Hey we could get her jetted and have you ride by Dugan's
riding a 5th gear wheelie
