Went riding today

Having a blast

Kept on hearing something...

Kind of a whirring sound...

Pinned it down to only happening in second gear

1st is fine 3rd on up is fine

2nd sounds like a fuggin truck in 4 Low

Fug fug fug!

Maybe an output bearing in the tranny just behind the countershaft sprocket? Second gear is right next to this bearing.

Thanks Ron

Probably messed it up when my water-pump seal went last summer

Wonder if something you can only get from Kawi or if a bearing supplier would have one?

Hope you are right Ron

Just talked to a mechanic, he thinks it sounds like a gear from what I told him

Got as much apart as I can until I can get the cases split apart

Output shaft spins nice and smooth

Input shaft is kinda noisy and not as smooth

Remember Brad's buddy I ran into?

Image

He's got a case splitter to let me use!! :supz:

I posted that I needed one on Facebook and he answered, said he'd take it with him when he goes riding in the morning and I can come by and get it!

I suppose you're planning to change the crank bearings and seals while you're in there? When my kid blew up his YZ I found all the tranny bearings felt a little rough and one of them was really bad. I swapped all of them and the shift stop gizmo which had broken.

Looks to me like you need to send them off to Slick Nick so he can "clean them up" for ya.

So it was making a whirring noise huh? I wonder if a sasquatch can differentiate between whirring and grinding.

Those geary parts are spendy, hopefully you don't need too many.

Ouch,

It took out the main shaft too.... I was hoping it was the other bearing just next to it. Second gear looks ok from what I can see of it.

Got a used tranny coming, hopefully it's in better shape

Too bad it wasn't the other shaft, as I believe they are the same in E's and H's

No grindy sounds

Shoot after I got it home I ran it on the stand and everything sounded fine

You could only hear the gear drive sound in second gear and under a load

Any other gear it sounded normal

Oil actually looked great when I drained it, except for all the little sparklies in it
