re plating: what are the best options?
Got a used cylinder off ebay and I'm pretty sure it needs to be re-plated.
I'll post pics later.
Just wondering where I should send it and thought a poll would be a good start.

think I need a re plate?
(cylinder I got from ebay from a "running bike")
piston skirt is scraped quite a bit, rings looked ok.
Valve were full of crud, spooge, and hard carbon deposit.
There are (a few) smooth scrapping not too deep but you can see them and feel them.
I wonder what happened, any thoughts?

Millennium, langcourt, powerseal.
Any of those guys will treat you right. Prices will all be very close to each other, and quality of work will be excellent. They will all stand behind their work as well. I was absolutely thrilled with the restoration job Langcourt did on a badly gouged cylinder I sent them recently, they got my vote. Pics of that cylinder are on the forum here..

re plating: what are the best options?
I just got my 97 kdx 200 cylinder back from Millennium Technologies. THEY DID AN AWSOME JOB! The plating is what it should be, all the port edges are nicely chamfered and the bore diamond honed with proper crosshatching to .0035" piston clearance. I sent the new OEM piston along with the cylinder. They cleaned all the cylinder's surfaces including the exhaust ports and resonator chamber so this cylinder now looks brand new! Turnaround time was about 10 days.
Millennium gets my vote.

re plating: what are the best options?
I used langcourt in the UK last year and my coating appears to be damaged already... the bike has had a tough time but I thought it was tougher than that!!! Also where they grind the ports on the inside, mine had a few marks on the plating where they slipped and went down the bore... shame there isn't really any other choices in the UK

re plating: what are the best options?
I used U.S. Chrome for a KX100 cylinder years ago. The plating looked rough and porous, but held up just fine for the short while that I had it. We sold the bike shortly afterwards so I do not know how long it lasted. If I had to do it again, I probably would not use U.S. Chrome again. I would probably try Langcourts, or PowerSeal. JMO.
