Mukuni TMX any good?

I've got a Mikuni TMX 35mm. carb off of a 1990 RM125. Does anyone know if these are any better/worse than a PWK? It would be going on a '97 KDX220 which has a 34mm (honed out 33) PWK currently. Unless the TMX is significantly better than the PWK I guess I'll just sell the TMX and buy a 35mm PWK. Any info/opinions are greatly appreciated. :supz:

Not sure about your year and application, but on my 02 cr250, the mikuni or however it is spelled is junk. Well, not junk, but super hard to jet. Went with a 38 pwk airstriker and bang! So much easier to jet, so much more bottom end......... perfect for me.

We've been trying to get a mikuni tmx working on my buddies 91. It hasn't been fun. It runs ok, but it's far from being right.

Those carbs are pretty good....but don't replace your already working PWK with it though. The PWK is superior IMO. No need to buy a 35mm. Your 33 is the same carb. Send the carb to RB (search RB on here). He will bore to 36, and make a multitude of other changes.

Swapping carb from one bike to another is getting into advanced jetting techniques. These carbs are pretty infinite in their tuning capability. You may need a slide that's 3 sizes different, needle profile that's from a completely different end of the chart. Vastly different pilot/mains, etc.

Thanks for all the replies!

It sounds like using the TMX isn't a great idea and I should stick with the PWKs.

Thanks for the info.

I've also got a '90 KDX200 (parts bike) with a PWK. Anyone know if that carb is bigger than the PWK on my '97 220?

Yes, it's a 35mm. 33 and 35 are the same body. Different bore. Not sure if the slides are a different #, but I don't think so. Regardless, slides/needles/jets/etc are all interchangable.
