Krud Kutter

Carb cleaner

Wire wheel

Lots of elbow grease

I got a little scrubber like this, holds soap in it, filled it up with Krud Kutter, works pretty good

Scotchbrite pads, sponges, sos pads, tooth brush, different sized wire brushes...

Krud Kutter really works good. Just keep the motor soaked with it while you are scrubbing.

How did you get the main valve out? I've followed all the steps and it wont come out. Could carbon build up stop it from sliding out?

Mine's an E, so I magine it's a different thing altogether

But it was a pain to get out

I used heat, from a mapp gas torch, and lots of swearing

got it out. Cleaned everything up. Reassembling and the right exhaust rod (left when you are working on it) with the o-rings on it wont go all the way in. I didn't think it was that hard to get out, so I dont want to force it. Does it need a little extra umph to get it in there?

It does.

Do a search on here on that rod o-ring, its actually called packing and doesn't come with the typical gasket kit, as I recall.

After the KIPS is all fully assembled it should move silky smooth. I had some issues in the bore that right hand rod goes in and thought it would work itself out. It didn't and I ended up riding for a year with a sticky KIPS. I ended up fixing it by running a drill bit wrapped with emory cloth in that bore.

Bolted motor and swingarm on today

Having fun figuring out which screw goes where LOL

Gonna go try to find a shorter spring for the "H" brake pedal that I'm going to try to fit. Spring needs to be about 3/8" shorter

Hopefully the rest of my parts will be here tomorrow

Let me know how that brake pedal works out. I've got one laying here off a yz250 that's really nice, but I'd need to make a bushing for it. Other than the larger hole, it lines up well. I kinda hate my crappy brake pedal.

Got mine stitched up this evening. I refrained from filling the radiators as then the temptation to fire it up and break it in up and down the road would be too great! I used that trick of piston in the cylinder first, and then dropped the whole mess down over the rod and slid the pin in and the 2nd circlip. I have decided this is much easier than trying to get the rings into the bore with the piston installed on the rod first. Note to self, put in the RIGHT circlip next time and work from the left side on assembly. The KIPS rod and clutch cable are in the way on the right side.

Here's one for you

When I took this thing apart, I don't remember seeing the Fredette Torque Ring when I pulled the pipe off

As far as I know, it should've still been installed

I can't find it anywhere in the shop ??

Maybe I vaporized it with last summer's meltdown when my waterpump seal went bad?
