Screw in Kick starter

Post by Byte »

part number 290 (screw) fits into the kick starter.

How far shoudl this screw be screwed in?

this screw butts up against the inner spring.

You can screw it in farther to tighten up the kick start lever. If it binds and you can not get the kickstarter out, then it's cranked in too far.

It should be screwed in until it binds..then another 1.785 turns. Apply additionally needed torque with a 3/4" driver if necessary.

If something doesn't break...it's NOT tight enough!!!

OR.....

While moving the kicker in/out..screw the allen in until the desired amount of detent is obtained.

Oh..doing this on an OEM spring is probably a waste of time...as IT is probably completely collapsed to start with.

In which case...go to your local hardware store and buy a suitable replacement?

What is suitable?

What is, is.

..and it doesn't depend, either!

Byte...you're killing me slowly.....

What does a detent DO, anyway?

One on-line defintion of 'detent' is:
A catch or lever that locks the movement of one part of a mechanism.
..which is what it does.

It assists the lever in staying in the 'tucked' postion.

Ever had a kick lever come out of it's 'tucked' postion..you didn't know it...about the time you put your leg out and hung your boot up on a shrubbery?

Should I get you a definition of 'break' and 'tibia'? Maybe 'wrench' 'dislocate' 'tear' and 'knee' or 'MCL'?
