Midrand RPM running choppy
02 KDX 200 low end feels fine and upper end is responsive but in the midrange RPMs the bike runs rough.
Is this a jetting issue?

Take the round screw cover with a slot in it that is up and to the left from the cover that says "KIPS" .... rev it to 6K and see if the shaft turns is the easiest way.

I removed the cover and can see no shaft. There is a hole or a port but I cant see a shaft inside. when I start it smoke comes out the hole until I rev the engine then the smoke stops coming out? It seems a valve is closing at higher revs. There is a lot of oil residue built up. Would that indicate it is running rich?Indawoods wrote:Take the round screw cover with a slot in it that is up and to the left from the cover that says "KIPS" .... rev it to 6K and see if the shaft turns is the easiest way.

You removed the round screw cover with the slot in it? You should see a cam gear attached to a shaft in there...

I do not know the current jetting. I think stock but that is purely assumption. I am the second owner and everything else is bone stock.

If the pipe is stock... it will hold you back. Stock jetting is really fat and will make your bike act worse the colder it gets. Air screw adjustment should help some however.

Do you know what a 2-stroke sounds/feels like when it's 4-stroking?

There isn't anything wrong with 4-stroking..as long as it's a no-load, light throttle situation. If my bike doesn't do it...I know it's too lean.
If it's happening under load AND throttle...that's a too-rich situation with a plug that's not firing every power stroke.
