Hey guys this is my first post. This looks like a great site to get some info on my newest toy. 2006 kdx 200. I just got the bike a few days ago and its got about half a tank of gas in it and Im wantin to top it off before I go riding wednesday. My question is will it hurt anything to add more gas thats mixed with a different brand of oil than whats allready in it???

It shouldn't. Did the guy you bought it from tell you what he used and at what ratio?

Some oils don't mix well together. The oil I use specifically mentions NOT to mix it with other premix.
If you don't know what it is, I would drain it, and refill with the new stuff. Put the old stuff in your car.

I have mixed before, no problem.

Seems like I had half a tank of Yamalube and changed to / topped of with Motul.

If you don't know what's in there, drain it. If you know what type and it's similar to what you're using, no worries. IE: I wouldn't mix a synthetic with a conventional....

A number of valid points already made.

We're not talking about 15,000 gallons of pre-mix. 1/2 a tank of wonder-what-this-is??? fuel isn't worth wondering about.

Use the stuff you drain in your lawnmower or sumthin'...... It may be leaded fuel that shouldn't go in your car (unless your car is pre-'75).

After you put the new fuel in, turn the petcock 'on', lay the bike down on its side until it pees for a few seconds.


What's 'a few'?

Allright thanx guys...Can somebody post a pic of what the petcock looks like when the gas is on? I dont see an arrow so I just wanted to be sure.

9 'o clock is off.

6 'o clock is main.

12 'o clock is reserve.

I know but which side of the lever needs to be pointin towards 6 'o clock

Now...that's a reasonable question I hadn't considered.



The lever side.

Opposite the lever is NOT anything that 'points' to anything....and that 'side' can't possibly point TO 9 'o clock.

..and it's never 3 'o clock on the KDX petcock!


Lever @ 9 'o clock is off.

Lever @ 6 'o clock is main.

Lever @ 12 'o clock is reserve.

How's that?

Oh...and midnight or noon don't make no nevermind, neither.

Just remember next spring when daylight savings starts up again to adjust the petcock accordingly and adjust by 1 hour.

What brand of oil states not to mix with others? I am guessing its more of a marketing ploy vs. actual oil formula.

Yet another reason not to use that.

I was wrong.
It wasn't the Maxima, it was the Castrol R castor oil that said that.

Amsoil (Dominator) discourages mixing of 2 stroke premix oils on their labels.

I did discover that the Lucas 2 stroke oil I have is low ash, and TC-W3. I didn't know that.

well guys I took my new bike out today and it did great...Its a workout compared to the four wheelers im used too, But WAY more fun. Im gonna post some pics in a lil bit...thanx for the advise on the oil guys

Correct. AND...I didn't even bring that point up. See? I can restrain myself..and do...a LOT of the time!

The more overall point you made was still correct: NOT mixing oils is the more sensible choice when compared to 'Let's dump this in! It's all good!'


There's another recent thread where Lucas oil was the topic of discussion (HERE!). You've used it??...or just have some? IF you do use it..and have an opinion one way or t'other, I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it.

It was near the end of my first season (2007) with my 04 RM125 that I bought the Lucas. I was out of the Dominator, and thought I would try it. IMO, the performance of the bike went down sharply, not long after I started using it. I changed rings over the winter, and it was fine. Was it the Lucas? Probably not, but I haven't used it since, except in my chainsaw (which started giving me guff shortly after). I never noticed that it was TC-W3 until today, and in light of Indawoods condemnation of TC-W3 oils, I don't think I'd use it again.

I believe in the Castor 927. I have had VERY good luck with it, and I ride my 125 hard. The powervalve, and rest of the internals are oily, and clean when I tear down twice a yr for rings/piston/rings. If not the 927, I would run Motul 800. Not a big fan of the Amsoil stuff, but a lot of people use it with luck. Like I said, my buddy (local #1 pro) told me he used Castrol super 2 stroke for years, without any problems, so really, probably any decent oil will work fine.

A KDX gets tore down twice a decade.... there is a little bit of a difference on the schedule....

And a big difference in the way it's ridden, and the amount of oil in the premix. Don't think I'll be mixing 32-1 on the KDX. More like 50-1 with the 927
