Assembly lube on new piston?
I found some Bel-Ray assembly lube and wanted to know where to put it. Is this the right stuff to use? Should I coat the piston and rings and then wipe off? Use on small end bearing too? Coat cylinder wall too?

I got stopped for speeding and the cop asks me "Don't you know the speed limit is 55 miles per hour?" So I said "yeah but I wasn't gonna be out that long."

Just use your 2-stroke oil...coat all the parts... don't wipe off. You'll be good to go...

Yep, just use 2-stroke oil.
I think your idea to coat, then wipe off is good. I just read that this morning in a motorcycle general repair book. I guess I would rater have glazed over doughnuts instead of rings / piston / cylinder, etc.

Used to be common practice was to DUNK the whole mess (piston/rings) in a pot-o-oil.
Probably more likely to cause a problem wiping it than leaving it alone. Ring edges/ends are real sharp.
I usually pour on a 'glob', squeegie it around with my finger, giving the rings a few back-n-forth wiggles to make sure the lands are coated.
A maybe too late BTW... if you got a back ring for the second ring (the spring metal just-had-a-permanent-looking-thing?), leave it out. What it does best is get stuck.

You might want to slowly kick it over a few times before giving it an official kick.

CC, Can you explain the BTW a little more clearly? Do you mean don't put on the lower ring?

He's talking about a backing ring.... It looks corrogated that fit below the bottom ring. Basically, if it comes with 3 rings... ask!
Most manufacturer's don't use them anymore... My Pro-X didn't and Weisco only has one ring I think.

You can look on the buykawasaki.com parts diagram to see exactly what he is referring to.
When I helped wsjkawasaki put in a new Wiseco piston in his 220, it came with two rings and no backing ring(s).

No problem. On the Wiseco instructons, I think it said to run the lettered side of the rings pointing up.
