Hey ya'll its me again. Replacing the piston and was dissassembling the KIPS assembly for cleaning and while pulling the "Main Shaft" of the Valve assembly out the Ball bearing fell on the bench from the other side.

I see from Cyclopedia it says to remove it:

and then in the other chapter it doesn't mention it again.

I know I have to put it back but I didn't see where it fell from or where to put it back to? Can someone clear this up for me?

Does it just ride behind the plate with teeth which is held on by the nut?

Thanks in advance Ya'll!

See that bolt below? There is a spring and your ball bearing that the bolt hold in there....

Does that help?

If you haven't taken that bottom bolt out, chances are the spring is still in there. IIRC, the spring is underneath the ball bearing. Pull the bolt to verify.

Just looked at it...I see now the spring goes in the hole and the ball bearing on top of it to act as a detent/cam to the cog! I didnt' see that spring...it may be a gonner! I'll drag a magnate around with hopes that it'll find it since it probably bounced off. Has anyone ever ordered this spring...alone?

Thanks! it was still in there! it was in a bind and compressed inside it but I have it! Thanks! All parts accounted for now! I feel I need to smooth the inside of that bolt out so it doesn't bind in there or it won't give the detent thats needed? I'll start reassembling tonight then I'll just wait till the Carb and Head come back from RB!

I prefer to leave the ball and spring out. The motor is much more lively. The low end is still there, but the transition to the mid/top happens much more quickly. This "mod" may not suit you if you do not ride aggressively all the time.
