What the F&%K, Night ride?

Post by johnnymoto »

So I bought this bike last weekend and so far I like it, well until I didn't get home before dark tonight. How in the hell do you guys ride these bikes at night or should I not? I know don't over ride your light but hell man I would have to go like supper slow! I have a DRZ 400sm and the light is not bad for stock but the bike is pretty tough to ride in the trails when wet. Is there any way to get a 200 watt lighting coil so I can run a DRZ light assembly? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :? :?

Well... you are a coupla months late on getting 100 watt coils. My source dried up.... I will check around though... see what I can dig up.

Generally any public trails make you stop riding at dusk.... In Illinois anyway. Most don't night ride.....

I just got off the phone with the guy who does them.... they are $140 shipped. It will take about 2 weeks to get them built.

I will only order them with a 50% deposit though.

Stock is 45 watts max...

100 watts is the biggest coil that will fit under the flywheel...

The bulb is 200 watts? That's hard to believe... most are around 55 watts on the high end.

No... these are outright purchases....

In all actuality... a 70 Watt should be more than enough.....

You can do a personal check or PayPal.

The personal check would have to clear before I could order one for you though.....

Any others want in on this?

I may very well, Inda.
I don't currently have a light at all. The 35 watt stock isn't worth the false idea that I could ride at night, anyway.

The cool thing about riding at night is when the bike stalls. I was out after dark in deep woods and fell off going up a hill. I rolled down the hill and the bike stalled as it rolled off somewhere. It took me a few minutes stumbling around in the dark to find the thing, but those were a long few minutes.

For that reason having a rider-mounted battery system makes some sense. I also carry a small flashlight now in case I get stuck out there.

As long as you keep the revs up it works pretty well

Carvr and I rode through a train tunnel a couple years ago. We were too chicken to ride between the tracks, so we rode on the ties along side the tracks. It was pretty fuggin hairy trying to keep the revs high enough to see where I was going without going to fast to stay on track

Re: '..How in the hell do you guys ride these bikes at night....'

Very carefully.

It does lead to a lot of excitement for sure. I've done it a few times..and do avoid it if I can.

Riding in the dark...in the fog...at the dunes...now THAT is a lot of fun!!

I'm kidding. It sucked. Vertigo? Oh yeah!!

Ha! That's a good one!!!

Very carfully! I began night riding this year and I love that. Maybe I will try to find a better setup like you ask someday but for the moment I have a 45w bulb (a few spare ones in the fanny pack) and a head lamp (blue spot on my video)

Night riding is fun and peaceful.

You can PayPal $70 to hengstberger@hotmail.com, make sure you state that it is for deposit on a 100 watt lighting coil.

I send instructions on how to install it. It is very easy.

I will make the order next Friday, so any others have until then before I make the order.
