Happend to me but certainly not that bad. I was loading the girlfriend's bike on the trailer and one of my fingers slipped in the chain guide.

Kx100 have a big hole in the chain guide.Just perfect for the fingers!
I lost a complete finger nail! We found it on the ground.

After a recovery, it happened AGAIN but this time, on the other hand.

So I left my girlfriend!!

Thanks for bringing back those memories

Of all the ways to get hurt with a bike....that one never would have crossed my mind before now. Jeesh! How much effort does it take to spin the back wheel by hand and accomplish the same goal?

So you think it can't be done by spinning by hand?

Not at all...simply meant that you can get the chain rotating by hand with minimal effort and significantly less speed or force applied to the spinning parts than would be created by idling in 1st gear. At the speed I spin the wheel to lube a chain, it might be possible to get a finger a little chewed up under similar circumstances, but doubtful that an amputation would result.

Man that really sucks !!
I have a buddy that loads and unloads by grabbing the upper side of the chain and have warned him several times he's gonna chop his fingers unloading of the back of his pick up....
Hasn't happened yet !!

Good post Wibb

I clean and lube my chains with the bike running and in gear

But I always use a Grunge Brush, and keep a very light grip on it

I'm on my 3rd brush LOL

I do the same. Quick and easy. Any stiff bristle brush seems to work great. I use an old hair brush. A rag is a bad idea for reasons which should be self-evident.

Once, years ago, I was using a rag to wipe off the excess oil off of my KDX chain.

Using my right hand to spin the tire

Something distracted me and in an instant my left hand was drawn into the sprocket and chain

I think it spun nearly half a revolution before I knew what happened

I then had to back it, back out

It chewed me up pretty good, but I still have all my digits luckily

A friend of mine nipped the end of his thumb off loading his bike. Somehow he got it in one of the slots in the brake rotor.
