Rattling stock silencer

If I rock my bike back and forth the stock (95 200) silencer clanks like a golf ball is moving around inside. Is this normal? Is there any maintenance that can be done since there is no packing material. Can it wear out?

Mine doesn't do that. I'm wondering if it has somebody's power valve stuck in it. Did you take it off and shake it? The silencer I mean.

Have you been riding close to any golf courses???

If you need a new stock one let me know. I'll let you have the whole system for 50 bux plus shipping.

Has just a couple rides on it before it was replaced.

I don't need the pipe. I have a brand new gnarly woods. I might be interested in the silencer/sparky though if you want to separate them. Let me know...

Most stock pipes end up at the dump, but the silencers are good stuff.

I don't see a response to what CM said.

So...did'ja?

To answer your questions:

The noise is not normal.

No maintenance. Take the drain plug off once in awhile...see if anything comes out.

There isn't anything in it TO wear out.

..doesn't mean something inside DIDn't break.

But...do what CM said.

I removed it and the sound is coming from the spark arrester end of it. With exaggerated movements it sounds more like a tin can inside of a tin can. My flashlight was no use from all three openings which is fine because there doesn't appear to be anything I can do about it anyway. I was going to ignore it since the silencer was still silencing.

I rode this little green beast out in the desert for the first time yesterday and the clanking is very annoying. Not annoying enough to wipe the grin off my face, but pretty annoying!

No matter what I did I couldn't get my left foot comfortable. It was hanging up on the frame, the shifter, and the peg wouldn't just fall into the comfortable part of my boot. I wear a size 10 so it's not a common problem for me.

As I was loading up the bike I noticed the left peg is very misshapen and bent forward! So is the shifter. That, the tank leaking right where the shroud would exert the most force during an impact , brand new bars, and a cobbled together clutch lever assembly makes me wonder if this poor little beast was once bounced out of a truck or trailer?

The bike was fun to ride (once I put something in the radiator) but it has problems. I'll save that for another post.

Thanks to all who replied, and CC, I hope I don't sound like too much of a kiss ass when I say thanks for answering other peoples questions. Every time I do a search and find the answer your name is in there somewhere.
