KDX200 to a KDX220R...kinda

Post by ColtonW »

Hello! I have been looking for a KDX220 for a while now, and I had reccently relized that there are ALOT more/nicer KDX200's for sale than 220s. I was wondering if you got the Wiseco big bore piston and put it in you would be 1mm smaller than a KDX220, but you would have a larger carb therefore it would be like riding a KDX220 with a bored carb, correct? Would it basically be a 220, or are there more than the piston size that makes the 220 a better trail rider?

Thank You!!

would a kdx220 cylinder fit on a 200? I know the GasGas and KTM 300 cylinders fit on the 250's... hmm..

It will fit but as you were told previously, the head and carb are different.

Well, if you put a 220 cylinder on a 200, you would need the head, and then w/ the 200 carb, wouldn't it be like an RB carb; bored? So YOU CAN make a 200 a 220 by swapping the head, cylinder, and carb and it would have the same torqy power?

Going back to your original question shows some possible misconceptions. You refer to the 220 as a better trail rider. I would bet that the majority of the members here would dispute that. The 200 makes more power up top, and the 220 takes headwork, a pipe, and a carb bore to even come close to being lively above low rpm. Of course my experience is riding my 220 at altitudes almost exclusively over 9000', so maybe they act better at lower levels. If I were you, I would can the idea of making a 220 and spend my money on the RB mods and a torque pipe if you want to enhance the low end power. Keep in mind also that many 220 riders have overheating problems that the 200's seem to be less prone to.

The first part:
Well, if you put a 220 cylinder on a 200, you would need the head, and then w/ the 200 carb, wouldn't it be like an RB carb; bored?
I don't understand. If you put a 220 cylinder/head on a KDX and used a 200 carb...you would have a 200 carb. Period. No, it wouldn't be like an RB carb because it wouldn't BE and RB carb. It would be a 200 carb. :hmm:

If you're asking if a 35mm KDX200 carb would work on a 220, the answer is simply, 'Yes.'

...but it would have nothing to do with it being 'like' an RB carb in any way shape or form.

The second part:
So YOU CAN make a 200 a 220 by swapping the head, cylinder, and carb and it would have the same torqy power?
..is similarly a bit hazy.

But, yes. You can put a 220 head/cylinder/carb on a 200 and it would then behave like a 220.

Well....a piston might be nice...........
