Output Shaft Seal Remover

Post by pjmac28 »

Blew out my output shaft seal this past week. Cyclepedia states with picture (below) to use a 'seal remover'. Have been searching but nothing to this point in locating one (Autozone/Harbor Freight/NAPA) or I/Cyclepedia has the terminology wrong. If there is another way without the tool that would also work.

That is not a pic from my bike. That is the tool I'm looking for or another method so I don't tear up the case.

I will not admit to my lack of googling since being an IT engineer. I rather place the blame on the author from whom I took the information from of not providing the correct tool name for a successful google.

So, no one is going to admit to using a screw driver to pop'n the seal up enough to get a hold of it with a needle nose pliers???? Worked on a Yamaha I..............I mean, someone had.

Be gentile putting the seal back in press'n "evenly", they wont take any abuse. I used a large socket that matching the size as a driver.

So Jewish folks aren't allowed to replace this seal? Are they non-Kosher? Sorry, I had to beat CC to that one!

another kosher-approved method is just to drill a small hole in the seal face, screw in a sheet metal screw and pull the whole thing out with a pair of pliers - that method keeps the case surfaces relatively safe from gouging.

I didn't think of the tap/screw method, probably because i thought the width of the seal was to narrow to recognize that method(to scared to use the screwdriver method. Mite poke meself in the eye ) Suppose I'll just wait anyway since I ordered the puller, might as well get my $$$ worth since it more than likely will not be used again unless my father needs some type of rudimentary tool for birthing calf's since that is what it looks like.

Yes, yes. Where did that go again?? I should probably hope you don't answer that.

Anyway, now we have another good reason why I should not drink and post. Friends don't let friends post drunk!

On a more serious note, I would like to hear a report about how that seal puller works. I always seem to be that guy that makes do without the proper tools......
