Painting frame and engine

Post by warsteiner »

I'm going to strip my KDX down to the frame and repaint, any suggestions as to how to prep and paint the engine ? Also was going to try and strip frame with Strip X , any other ideas or recommended stripper's ? Or should I just have it sand blasted ? Thinking about painting the frame black, any pics of one with black frame ? Thanks Jim

I would highly reccomend having the frame media blasted. I just had mine blasted last week, $35 for the frame and 10 or 12 other random parts. I then used a zinc rich primer, and then powder coated it mountain purple.

Paint stripper on a frame will be a nightmare. Media/sand blasting is cheap when you consider the amount of time spent stripping it by hand. I just borrowed a sand blaster and did mine myself. Took about an hour, and the results were impressive. Then I just primed and painted with automotive wheel paint.

PJ1 makes a nice epoxy engine paint....They make good frame paint too for that matter.
