I need some info from you who know. I am going to purchase this week either an absolute mint '97 200 or a mint '03 200. The only mods are an fmf pipe on both. My question is, are there any advantages in the later models. I realize the price is obviously more but I don't want the cost to factor in. what do you think? 3d

but if you are a guy, and you get the '97, PLEASE change the purple! all of your friends (and me too) are gonna laugh at you!

kawa was really trippin' when they came up with that scheme! i just passed up a '97 for sale here. didn't wanna spend the extra cash. even had purple fork gaiters!

Are you able to ride them both? They might not be as much the same as you think.....

Even right off the assembly line, there are huge differences in how the bike performs sometimes (my friend got a new Lemon motorcycle so I know this happens)

Good luck, let us know which one you chose and the reasons why.

Whats wrong with PURPLE?

One of my fav colors!

Much better than that baby blue crap they used to do on the "e's"

Six years can see a lot of hard knocks on a dirtbike. Think of some tell-tale that you can use to see how well the bikes have been maintained. A six year newer bike doesn't have to be in better condition.

Ex: Check both rear wheels when off the ground for radial play. There should be absolutely none. Any wiggle means the wheel bearings are shot (unless you're wiggling the swingarm! ).

Lightly touch the rear wheel to the ground while watching or having a hand on the lower shock joint. ANY movement means the bottom shock bearing is shot.

Either of those situations kind'a indicates the bike has not been taken care of.

I'd rather have a '97 that WAS taken care of than an '03 that had the oil changed once a year, had never had a shock service, fork fluid service, etc. etc.

You're getting the same bike (both being in the original configuration).

Consider: Less money spent on the purchase leaves you more coin to 'fix' stuff.....and EVERY dirtbike needs SUMthin'.
