I guess I need something???

Lil off topic....

Rode after work tonite, some sweet singltrack, 15 miles or so, I'd never been on. Beautiful weather!

Get done and I'm on my way to my fav mexi place for a burrito

About 10 minutes out, I get a call from my bro saying my girlfriend is at the mexi place. I think, oh okay fine.

One. I don't have a girlfriend and two, I am not aware of any "date" so I figure there must be some joke they are pulling so I go along with it...

I pull up to mexi place and this lil gal comes running out waving her arms at me!! I instantly recognize her as some gal I've chatted with on Yahoo, but I'd never actually met.

She comes running up to me and says its after 6 o clock

I'm like, So.........?

She says Wednesday?? 6 o clock???

I'm like, Huh????

Long story short, I was drinking BEER and YUKON Monday nite!!!!!!! :partyman:

Ok. Take a look at the new Sony helmetcam kit.

First read the brochure.

Here:  http://www.sony.ca/hdv/files/Brochures/ ... HXRMC1.pdf

Then, put your bike for sale, and buy the helmetcam kit!

That Tachyon footage looks pretty jerky to me. The quality of the pics is fine..but they aren't 'close enough' together!

Doesn't look anything like 30fps. Hell...isn't 15fps perceived as motion?

That Sony is VIDeo!

And so CHEEP, too!!

Dang..buy two of 'em!

Heres some footage from my ATC2K on the handlebars of my KDX220.

If you add &fmt=18 like so

It clears the picture up no end. Youtube is notorious for killing the quality of the picture.
I have problems with the SD card or batteries working loose and it corrupting the memory. This is the only footage i got of a great day out in the forests, basically all i got was us heading down some tracks to the good places to ride. The tracks were really rippled though, it was banging the hell out of the bike, camera and me

I don't know if I mentioned this before or not but I upload my video (ATKC2) on vimeo. The pic quality is much better than on youtube (haven't tried their "HD" video though) and it's pretty quick to upload. The downside is you're only allowed 500 MB a week or sumthin.

The ATCK2, ATCK3 are out of the question due to power issues.

The GoPro HERO is just fugly and has weird mounting options, so it is out of the question just because of that!

The VholdR is about twice the price of the others I have been checking into so that one is out! Everything else is just ridiculous for what they want for them...

I am going to go for the Tachyon XC... it has good stable power with a good battery life, waterproof, a huge recording time... up to 32GB SD card, and it isn't too fugly. I think I can live with it at $149

I've been watching a few helmet camera vids, the tachyon seems to be the only one which doesn't suffer from horrid wind noise, this is very important on a dirt bike believe me.

I may well have missed this somewhere in the thread,but...

Re: 'The ATCK2, ATCK3 are out of the question due to power issues.'

Specs of that cam say:
Operates with 2 AA batteries, not included
.
.
4 AA Batteries

I don't know what that means. It runs on 2AA..so what's the 4AA part?

And...AA batteries being commonly available, not incredibly spendy..what 'power issues' make it out of the question?

The video sheckaet linked to look far better than the last OregonScientific video I saw (Wibby's camera). Pretty shaky, but the shots were quite clear and there wasn't the light/dark problems of the earlier OS camera.

Anyway..what's the power problem.

BTW...form follows function. If a unit is available that works like it's supposed to, I certainly don't give a rip what it looks like. Seems silly to consider what it looks like. Who the heck cares?? What's the VIDEO lool like! NO one watching a vid from the camera is going to have the slightest idea what the camera that took it LOOKS like.

Power issues relates to recording run time or vibration disconnecting the power from the camera while recording stopping the camera from doing what it was doing.... Garbage in, garbage out.... depending on which camera we are talking about but neither is acceptable to me.

I do not want a honkin' 35mm sized camera mounted on top of my helmet waiting to batted off my head or getting hung up on branches or a huge vine in the case of the H&M ride.

Just facts...
