I figured for sure he'd just used an old lamp cord
Bearings are the only thing not worth replacing, stator wire is certainly worthy!

Well, got the bike running yesterday, and first impressions of the stator rewind are great! My headlight is noticibly brighter for one, but the main thing I noticed is that it doesn't dim with RPM anymore. It seems (to my eye at least) that at idle and once you rev it up, there is little to no change. All in all I'm happy with this mod. I can't comment on whether or not it had much effect on the ignition coil, because I jsut did a bunch of mods at once, so the quicker throttle response may be a result of the RB carb and head. For lighting though, it will get the job done for me!

HI,

found this topic in my searches, I have a spare duff coil and thought I would rewind it. 18G is referred to - is that Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) which measures 0.048 inches (1.219 mm) diameter or American Wire Gauge (AWG) which is 0.0403 inches (1.024mm) diameter? Reading the thread it will make a difference. Can you confirm please?

Nope. It is actually pretty easy to do yourself. Just read the thread I linked to 2 posts above yours.

http://www.steahlyoffroad.com/lighting/ ... -coil.html

I have a feeling the 65W rating is on the conservative side. Here it is next to what was left of my stock coil. As you can see, they use several more plates in the core.

For what they charge, and the quality it appears to be, i can't really see spending the time to re-wind my own. I've had in installed for a few weeks now, and have been really happy with it. I have two 35W bulbs in my headlight and it powers them both just fine.

Yep. Somehow I linked it wrong. I went back and fixed it so that it is now correct.

$20 vs. $75. I see a big reason to do it myself! Also, I get the satisfaction of having done it.

Plus a least a couple hours of time. Which makes it not worth it to me :). If your time isn't worth anything, then your math works out good, and good for you :).

Just letting the person who asked know that they ARE aftermarket options, and at a very reasonable price, too. If someone has the time and inclination to do it themselves, good for them. I'm busy, so the $50 to save me a few hours was worth it this time.

You did notice I said "myslef", yes? I know saving $55 bucks may not be worth it to some. However, for me, it is. Remember, I have lots of free time right now. I work for a school system so I'm off work all summer!

Thanks everyone for the help. I agree that my time is valuable but I really enjoy the hands on approach.

Thanks for all the input.

Exactly right.

Yeah, that's the company but I have never heard of anyone actually ordering some. If you do, please post up about it and how much it cost in total.

As for the topic of this thread, I'm starting my rewind tonight! I will be trying to duplicate Nick's setup.
