Clean Muffler?

Post by santidreamer »

The KDX service manual says to clean the muffler every 1000 KM

Not sure what that means, surely not driiling out rivets on the spark arrestor, it would have been made to come apart easier if it was a service item!?

My understanding is that the stock pipe (spark arrestor) is packed with exhaust packing material. When this is in a poor state back pressure is reduced and therefor proformance suffers.

I believe the "cleaning" procedure in the service manual is; warm the bike up, take a rubber mallet and tap on the pipe while revving the engine. Can't see how much cleaning that'll do, but...

Take the plug out of the s/a, any spoo will come out. Hold a pan under it or it all lands on your swing arm.
