FMF powercore II silencer

Post by smuggler »

I was just given a FMF powercore II silencer from a 1998 kdx 220 but when I cleaned it up I noticed there was no packing or pipe inside the can.
The thing is empty. I know i can buy packing, but can i get the pipe? Does anyone have a pic or description of what the pipe is suppose to look like. I'm assuming it should be full of small holes?

Save the sparky if it has it. That section is useful for hybrids as the last 6" has a bit of muffler and sparky and the USFS sparky stamp. Just my .02, but if you don't plan to do one of those, then yeah, chuck it.

Curious...the perforated core was cut off? Is that someone's idea of an improvement?

It wouldn't work at all! Well...unless they ran it empty. Then it would work...just not for diddle.

Hope it didn't come from someone you know!!

You're not talking about a PowerCore II shorty, right?

My bad, if its a power core, not sure whats in there. Mine was a turbinecore 2 and that has the sparky.

So curious as well, what was inside the can?

I haven't had a powercore apart, but I suppose it's just the perforated core sans the turbine that makes a 'TurbineCore II' a silencer and spark arrestor.

That said, folks mix-up the two names all the time.

Yeah...what WAS inside?

Wouldn't that be a hoot. Somebody thinking they were doing some hot-rod mod to their bike cutting the core off and packing the can full'a fiberglass.

Maybe they just cleaned it up before they gave it away ('cuz it din't work a'tall!).

I had a Power Core II for a while. It is like CC described. There should be a long perforated tube inside the aluminum cannister. Since you got it for free you could probably get a welder or someone to make a new tube for you. I'm sur eit would be pretty easy. Actually you could probably make it yourself with a saw and when you get it just right take it and have it welded on for a few bucks.

It is a power core II( or should I say was), the thing is empty. I was speaking to the guy I got it from, he said he took it apart to replace the packing but instead ordered a new one? Anyway not sure how the core got taken out or misplaced.

On mine the perforated core and the stinger pipe are all welded together. He would have had to cut it off, I think. Maybe he just doesn't want to admit it.

I've only seen 3-4 different kinds..and NOT a PowerCore, but they have all been welded as jc noted.

No big deal...I'm just curious what the thinking was that would entertain such an idea.

I bet the thing busted off. When I take my powercore non s/a silencer apart the stinger is barely attatched with a tack weld. Don't ask how it happened, I bought it used that way. Seems like it would be a easy fix but I like the stocker to much to bother with it.
