Rivet gun recommendations

Looks like its time to repack my Turbine II S/A silencer. I assume I will need to drill out the rivets and replace. So looks like its time to buy (hopefully?) a cheap rivet gun. Anyone have recommendations and what size stainless rivets I should use.

I thought I saw something about this a few months ago but could not find after searching. Anyway, any input would be appreciated.

Happy holidays!!! Steve

Any hardware store should carry rivet guns....

Yeah, just buy a rivet gun and an assortment of rivets

And some high temp sillycone, rivets tend to leak spooge

My turbine core II has bolts on the end toward the engine that you take out and it comes apart. No drilling required.

On the turbine core itself?

Most have bolts on either end, but the turbine core is usually held in by rivets

My kid was a turbine core 2, which is only a couple years old and I repacked it without having to grind out or replace any rivets. It was held together with round head allen screws. Maybe the newer ones are different.

No need to mess with the "turbine core". It is just the spark arrestor. The packing is in the other end. There is nothing in the spark arrestor to be serviced.

I thought that was the beauty of the turbine core, no screen to be cleaned. I could be wrong but I thought that is why the turbine core allowed more flow than screen type arrestors.

I dunno what the newer ones are like, but on mine the turbine core is always a big gooey mess

I break it all down and clean everything until I have bare metal

Just makes the repack go much nicer to start with a clean piece

I usually heat the turbine with a propane torch 'til it glows, it'll burn and then smoke for 20 minutes or so

I bet burning it like that would work pretty well. I have never serviced the spark arrestor portion. I try to keep up with changing the packing and when I do this I always look at the S/A part but have never really felt the need to clean it. Can you tell any difference after cleaning. Mine doesn't seem to get that spooged up.

It's just a lot nicer having it all clean

Seems if you get just a dab of spooge on your hand that **** ends up on everything in the shop

Maybe yours will turn out different...but my disassembly of a TCII on an 'H' KDX (same for 'A' models as yours) ruined it.

Yeah..you can take the rivet out/off easy enough. When it became obvious that the spark arrestor part wasn't going to come out without damage, I DID get it out..but only with a LOT of damage. By 'damage' I mean it was toast...no good no more...beyond repair...all bent to hell.

I've 'cleaned' mine with Yamaha CCC, and some other solvents. That don't work too good, either. You can dump a lot of fluid in there..and it don't wanna come out.

Maybe soak the whole thing (the arrestor end) in a gallon of Berryman's......

I suppose a REAL torch (meaning something other than propane) would cook off something..and maybe turn the aluminium cannister into a puddle of shiny stuff.

Or...just leave it alone!

If THIS is the point:

..you don't mess with the rivets..just the allen button heads on the other end.
