after a 3rd/4th gear crash i think my forks are twisted in the clamps.I did a search but i didnt know the right terms to use i guess, as i couldnt find what i needed.so if someone could tell me how to do it,or show me the links that i couldnt find that would be much appreciatd.
my bike has standard 2006 H series conventional(RSU) forks.

We used to put the wheel up against a tree and turn in the opposite way...
Proper way is to loosen the clamps up enough to straighten them and then torque them back correctly according to the manual.

Thought i read somewhere's to loosen the pinch bolts on your forks, upper and lower, 'til they just barely stay in place
Then spin the front tire and lock the front brake a couple times
Tried this the other day on my Vstrom, it really seemed to help

Take note of what Skythrasher said. The OEM iso-mounts with the OEM top clamp setup WILL tweak easily. You would swear something's bent, but it's not.
Take the isolaters out, put them back in....maybe swap'm around just 'cuz. That will sufficiently 'reset' them.
Doesn't mean something isn't skewed on your bike.
...and Wibby's post will take care of that, if it's a forktube alignment problem.

After my little chance encounter with a deer a couple weeks back my Vstrom felt f'd up going into slow speed left turns
Felt like my forks were tweeked
I tried Inda's little trick over the weekend and the forks feel fine now

It's less the iso-cones than it is the OEM handlebar clamp setup....'cuz the same cones with a better clamp don't have that problem.

alright I will keep that in mind and i might have to go have a play around with them.although if i sit on the bike and eyeball it the clamps look to be in the same position, but the crossbar on the hangers are in a different spot relative to the clamps.canyncarvr wrote:It's less the iso-cones than it is the OEM handlebar clamp setup....'cuz the same cones with a better clamp don't have that problem.

It's been awhile since I had to mess with them..but as I recall what you describe is exactly what appears to be when the things need to be reset.
Of course...it's ALSO exactly what appears to be when sumthin's just plain BENT!
Isn't THAT helpful................
