My above comment was tongue-in-cheek. I thought the phrasing of your question ('..one..or two?) was particularly well done, figuring you to
know the answer to the question but not wanting to
imply the correct answer.
I amuse myself with some strange things, 'eh?
Parts diagram shows two:
This is my understanding of 'things':
There was a time that Fredette recommended putting in an 'extra' washer there to reduce the tension on the detent ball. A cylinder I sent to FRP for a replate/port job came back with two washers in that position.
I thought he had put an 'extra' washer there...there being TWO of 'em.
An assumption on my part.
I found other OEM cylinders to also have two washers on that bolt.
Gee. I figured a whole lot of people
must be copying the FRP setup!!
For whatever reason I was later looking at the above diagram...and noticed the TWO washers present in an OEM configuration.
Huh? How could I have an EXTRA one if there are two to START with?
I called Fredette (maybe it was an email), asked him about it. He said he used to put a extra washer in that spot, but came to the conclusion it didn't accomplish anything, so stopped doing it.
See what happens when there's '...too much assumin' goin' on!!'???
..and it's SO easy to do!!
